Short answer: Loan origination system software should be evaluated as the record and workflow environment for an active loan process. A useful evaluation tests data ownership, role-based context, review points, connected-system requirements, and exception handling with representative records. A ranked feature list does not establish what a particular organization can rely on.

Start with the operating record
Ask which system is the source of truth for each key record element, which role needs to review the next step, and how a discrepancy is corrected. This keeps the evaluation focused on usable workflow rather than assumptions from a vendor label or an outdated list.
| Workflow question | Evidence to request | What to document |
|---|---|---|
| Record ownership | A representative loan record with a current status, responsible owner, and visible history. | Who owns the current action and where that context is reviewed. |
| Data ownership | A field-level map for data that must move between systems, including source of truth and correction path. | What is confirmed in writing for the proposed configuration. |
| Role context | A view for each person who needs to act or review. | What each role can see and what requires escalation. |
| Exception path | A duplicate, incomplete, conflicting, reassigned, or stopped record. | What pauses, who reviews it, and how the resolution is recorded. |
| Implementation scope | Current written prerequisites, permissions, support ownership, and limitations. | Which parts of the proposed workflow are confirmed for the account. |
Use five representative cases
- A new file to test first ownership and source context.
- A record with missing information to test the review path.
- A duplicate record to test correction.
- A record moving between internal owners.
- A record that should pause or stop a planned workflow.
Video evidence: inspect database exceptions
This public BNTouch tutorial uses duplicate records, stale imports, inconsistent tags, and frozen statuses as review cases. It is a product example, not a statement about another provider's functionality or current account configuration.
