HFOT is a nonprofit that builds mortgage-free, specially adapted homes for severely injured Veterans of the wars since 9/11. The homes restore some of the freedom and independence those Veterans gave up, and let them turn back to their families, their recovery, and what comes next.
Each home is built where the Veteran chooses to live, and HFOT stays with the family after the keys change hands. Since the organization started in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar has gone directly to its program services for Veterans.

An IED detonated beneath him in Afghanistan on June 26, 2011. He lost both legs and sustained a severe traumatic brain injury, and woke from a two-month coma with no memory of being a Marine. His specially adapted home was delivered in Valley Center, California in July 2016.

He deployed to Iraq in 2003 with the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armor, where a fall from his vehicle left him with a concussion. It led to Leber's optic neuropathy, and he is now legally blind. His home was delivered in Pearland, Texas in February 2021.

On his first deployment, with the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines in Helmand Province, an IED took both his legs above the knee on August 10, 2012. His single-level, barrier-free home was delivered in Crystal River, Florida in November 2018.
